edit FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions that have short term relevance
This page aims to answer queries from the class members and that are likely to be useful for others. Thank you to all of you who have sent queries.
edit 2011-07-30 ‒ Q: How will I know what has changed in the class web site?

An excellent question! And close to my heart as the whole issue of versioning is really important.

To address this issue, I have created a new page on the class web site: Changes. This will list all the changes to the web site.

In general, once the semester is under way, you should expect weekly changes to the front page of the site Schedule, and its associated linked materials for that week and the Readings. In addition, the FAQ and Changes pages will change in an ad-hoc manner.

edit 2011-07-30 ‒ Q: I read the reading for this week and cannot see any weaknesses - what should I do?
Just do your best - we will discuss this in class. As the semester goes on, you should find this aspect easier - let me know if you do feel you learn to do this better as the semester progresses. There is no penalty for having trouble with it in the homework - so long as you make a serious effort.
edit 2011-07-30 ‒ Q: I missed the first lecture - what should I do?

A: You need to read through the whole of this site carefully and make sure you understand the assessment and structure of the subject. You should also look at the videos we watched in class: http://www.ug.it.usyd.edu.au/~comp5047/2011/Schedule/Week01.html

For the first one, we used part of the class time for students to form groups and discuss the vision presented, is feasibility and desirability.

Both are intended to give a sense of the sorts of things that the area of Pervasive Computing deals with.

Also, those in class completed and handed in the form used to create the groups for the main project of the semester: http://www.ug.it.usyd.edu.au/~comp5047/2011/Form_group.html
You can either complete that and get it to me or mail me the information.

Note also that you need to do the readings - as on main page and write the things described at: http://www.ug.it.usyd.edu.au/~comp5047/2011/Readings.html

edit FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions that have long term relevance
This column has aspects that address issues that students are likely to find relevant throughout the semester. It answers common queries from the class.
edit 2011-07-28 ‒ Q: How do I access papers from the digital libraries off campus
A: For the readings, you should already be able to access all papers as the url takes you to the library to login. For other papers, add ezproxy2.library.usyd.edu.au after the domain in the url. For example,
http://doi.acm.org/10.1145/344949.344988
becomes
http://doi.acm.org.ezproxy2.library.usyd.edu.au/10.1145/344949.344988

Alternatively, you may find it convenient to click on the University link to ACM Digital Library and the University Library IT databases

Erasable e-paper shown off, erased, shown off again ... a new type of easily erasable e-paper. ... uses a thermal printer and cholestric liquid crystals, letting users write and erase its contents up to 260 times ... different colored inks ... should be available to us consumer types in about two years.
